Super-dee-duper model Naomi Campbell has been hospitalized in Brazil and is being treated by one of them top notch doctor types who specializes in infectious diseases. Official reports say a small cyst has been removed. Unofficial reports claim she has ‘flesh-eating’ disease.
Here’s another official report – after thinking for a second about flesh-eating disease, I actually threw up in my mouth, just a little bit.

The shape of things to come?
Based on his Senate history, Barack Obama as president would likely push to expand human rights and reduce poverty abroad using cooperation rather than confrontation, if foreign events permit. Aside from his vigorous opposition to the Iraq war, Obama spent more of his time on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on speeches and inspirational trips than on investigations and aggressive oversight.
With the bright lights of the media on Mr. Obama these days, it’s easy for people to get caught up in the “dream” of his probable nomination and his subsequent ascension to the presidency. That’s where the fantasy will end. Unfortunately, the MSM is completely in love with this guy, so the chances are nil that any of his extreme leftist beliefs will surface prior to November ’08.

The Gallup people asked, “Who Do You Think Will Win the Democratic Nomination for President?” The results are pretty clear.
Not only does Obama enjoy this perceptual aura of inevitability, but he also is widely seen as the candidate who would provide the stiffer challenge for John McCain in November. Republicans say he would be tougher for McCain to beat, and Democrats say he would have the best chance of beating McCain come November.
Rasmussen Reports polled likely primary voters in Ohio. Hillary Clinton shows 48% to Obama’s 43%. He’s up 5 percentage points in one week. That’s got the Clinton Campaign in panic mode, and their flight or fight situation has put them in a precarious position. Voters hate overtly negative stump speeches and advertising, yet when you’re backed into the corner, you have few choices.
Such is the state of Hillary’s world today.

Following Maggie Williams’ lead, Hillary dummies up about the Obama photo kerfuffle.
“I know nothing about it,” Clinton told ABC affiliate WFAA. “This is in the public domain. But let’s just stop and ask yourself: ‘Why are you — why is anybody concerned about this?'”
Clinton said that she found questions about whether her campaign leaked the photo to be “really laughable.”
“This is one more attempt by my opponent’s campaign to change the subject,” said Clinton, “From his health-care plan that won’t cover everybody, from an economic plan that won’t produce jobs, and from a record that is pretty thin when it comes to national security and standing up for our country around the world.”
Why is she acting like everyone in the world is a complete idiot? Like we really believe she doesn’t know who pushed that photo to the media today. Puhleeze.

First the Emmys died, and now the Oscars.
Following the lowest-rated Emmys since 1990, the strike-hindered ratings performance of a severely truncated version of the Golden Globes and a nonstruck airing of the Grammys that nonetheless disappointed, Sunday night’s presentation of the 80th Annual Academy Awards on ABC hit an all-time ratings low.
According to overnight fast national ratings, the awards averaged a 10.7 rating among adults 18 to 49 and was seen by 32 million viewers. In the demo, that’s down a sharp 24% from last year and the lowest on record. Among viewers, that’s a 20% drop. The previous all-time low was in 2003.
Sunday night’s Oscar telecast, where “No Country for Old Men” took the top prize, was expected to underperform given the lack of movies with broad boxoffice appeal vying for best picture. ABC and producers also were unsure whether the Oscars were going forward with a full production until the writers strike was resolved Feb. 12, resulting in a last-minute scramble to prepare and market the show.
I stuck around for the first 45 minutes or so, then I just had to split. It was boring. It was lackluster. John Stewart was barely funny. Heck, the actors looked like they didn’t want to be there.
Not.memorable.

President George W. Bush is picking his political comments with strategery these days. No use gettin’ into a fight just yet.
“I’m confident we’ll hold the White House in 2008,” Bush told donors at the Republican Governors Association annual dinner, which raised a record $10.6 million for GOP gubernatorial candidates.”And I don’t want the next Republican president to be lonely,” Bush said. “And that is why we got to take the House, retake the Senate, and make sure our states are governed by Republican governors.”
I’m not convinced that the GOP has a great chance to take a majority of the House, the Senate AND call the White House home. It’s more likely that we’ll have a McCain presidency, but a Democratic majority in Congress. I don’t think the Democrats will be able to run on an anti-war message like they did in ’06. They’ve been able to accomplish exactly nothing since taking the reigns more than a year ago. I think the electorate will be sure not to allow a one party majority rule in 2008.

World governments are focussing too much on fighting terrorism while obesity and other “lifestyle diseases” are killing millions more people, an international conference heard Monday. Overcoming deadly factors such as poor diet, smoking and a lack of exercise should take top priority in the fight against a growing epidemic of chronic disease, legal and health experts said. Global terrorism was a real threat but posed far less risk than obesity, type two diabetes and smoking-related illnesses, US law professor Lawrence Gostin said at the Oxford Health Alliance Summit here. “Ever since September 11 we’ve been lurching from one crisis to the next which has really frightened the public,” Gostin told AFP later.” While we’ve been focussing so much attention on that we’ve had this silent epidemic of obesity that’s killing millions of people around the world and we’re devoting very little attention to it and a negligible amount of money.”
Food, even the bad for you kind, brings a certain amount of pleasure. People spend money to obtain pleasure. Companies make billions of dollars because their product elicits a pleasurable effect with the customer. Last I looked, my double whopper with cheese wasn’t wearing the belt of a suicide bomber.
In a post 9/11 world, I can’t even believe we’re having this conversation.

Obama Accuses Clinton of Smear Campaign after Circulating Photos of him Dressed as ‘a Muslim’
Barack Obama’s campaign chief today accused Hillary Clinton’s aides of “shameful offensive fear-mongering” by circulating a smear photo designed to trick voters into once again thinking the black presidential hopeful is a Muslim. David Plouffe claimed members of the former First Lady’s team had e-mailed an image of the Democratic frontrunner dressed in a tunic and turban. Mr Obama, who was raised as a Christian by his white mother despite his Kenyan father being Muslim, has been dogged for months by claims he is secretly following the Islamic faith.
I’m sure you’ve seen the photo by now, but if you haven’t, it’s here.
It didn’t take long to assume the truth in the narrative that the Clinton campaign circulated the photo. Maggie Williams, who recently took over the Clinton day-to-day strategy, all but implicated the organization with her non-denial denial.
Enough. If Barack Obama’s campaign wants to suggest that a photo of him wearing traditional Somali clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed. Hillary Clinton has worn the traditional clothing of countries she has visited and had those photos published widely. This is nothing more than an obvious and transparent attempt to distract from the serious issues confronting our country today and to attempt to create the very divisions they claim to decry. We will not be distracted.
Politics is ugly, to be sure. And this stunt is just that – a Clinton quick chump hit to Obama’s knees in an attempt to gain political footing. After the debate in Texas last week, the media picked up on what many saw as a conciliatory gesture by Hillary signaling that she knew her ’08 presidential aspirations were coming to a close. That was the last thing the Clinton campaign wanted. The proof of this was revealed this past weekend, with Hillary suddenly turning from a state of reflection to a state of fury to blatant sarcasm. Let us not forget the ‘do anything to win’ mentality of this bunch.
Informed and engaged voters need less than 1 minute to see through this game and see the absurdity in it. We take a look at Obama in his Somali garb and realize it’s nothing more than ceremonial appeasement to a constituency. Yet, both campaigns know that the average voter doesn’t know squat. They’re impressionable. They’re fickle. They’re shallow. They vote for the candidate who color matches their clothing. They get excited over the candidate who plays a saxophone on late night television. We know these types. They’re paper thin. Stories like this wouldn’t gain traction if it weren’t for the gullibility of the average American. Want a presidential election that focuses on the issues? Want substance? You won’t find it as long as the “man on the street” refuses to become interested.
The real story here is the epidemic vacancy of the electorate.
The Politico details Clinton campaign expenditures which contributed to the organization finding themselves in debt at he beginning of February.
