Via AFP: US forces recently came close to capturing Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in Iraq and they have found his laptop computer and seized some of his money.

I don’t get it – why is it so hard to get this guy? I know Osama is in rugged mountains or something, and that has its challenges, but Zarqawi…this guy has been everywhere. In and out of Baghdad, in Ramadi. In cities for goodness’ sake. Could it be that we’re trying too hard to do the right ‘political’ thing and allow Iraqis to catch him? That’d make good TV wouldn’t it?

I hope not.

From the attic came an unearthly howl. The whole scene had an eerie, surreal quality, like when you’re on vacation in another city and Jeopardy comes on at 7:00 p.m. instead of 7:30.

The Family Research Council must not have done it’s research when choosing their name for today’s event in Louisville, Kentucky uniting religious conservatives against democrats filibustering religious judicial nominees. The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, the service branch of the Unitarian Universalist Church held its annual Justice Sunday last month on March 13th, this year drawing attention to “threats to the human right to water.”By the way, this is the same denomination (of what, I’m not sure) that publishes a same sex wedding planning guide (here in pdf), and another branch of the UUA consists of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. From their website:

“Explore the beauty of Pagan, Goddess, and Earth-centered spiritualities woven together with Unitarian Universalism. The Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans, Inc. (CUUPS) is an Independent Affiliate of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA). We are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization committed to furthering Pagan and Earth-centered thea/ology within the UUA.”

I suppose this is the ecumenical approach Dems were wanting from Sen. Frist talked about in my last post.

Liberals are all in a twist over Justice Sunday, a simulcast to participating churches nationwide scheduled for later today expressing outrage over filibuster tactics Dems are using to block judicial nominees based on their religious views or moral convictions.In a laughable/nauseating attempt of bullying, Lefties are even spinning the event as an attack on the religious views of Democrats. Participants in the simulcast include Chuck Colson, Dr. Al Mohler (President of Southern Baptist Seminary) and Dr. James Dobson just to name a few. But the participant that’s drawing a dumbfounding amount of far left ire is Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist from Tennessee. For some reason, The New York Times evidently doesn’t want Frist identified with religious conservatives-

“With his patrician bearing and background in the relatively liberal Presbyterian Church, Dr. Frist, a Harvard-trained transplant surgeon, does not fit in as naturally with Christian conservatives as President Bush.”

Translation: Frist is smart, Bush and religious conservatives are dumb. Democrats and more liberal church groups are even attacking Frist’s faith, saying that he’s abandoning his Presbyterian beliefs, which should be more “ecumenical” instead of pandering to religious extremists. Excuse me? First off, let’s assume that Frist is NOT being ecumenical and he’s not being a true Presbyterian like these hyenas are saying. Weren’t Dems all up in arms when Kerry was accused of picking and choosing what his Catholic faith meant to him last Fall? Take a look at the major speakers at this event: a psychologist that’s a Nazarene (Dobson), a school president that’s Baptist (Mohler), a former White House hatchet man that wrote “Evangelicals and Catholics Together” (Colson), and a Harvard trained surgeon turned Senate majority leader who’s a Presbyterian (Frist.) Sounds pretty ecumenical to me.The most sickening part is the liberal attack tactics on Frist to keep him out of this simulcast picked up by hundreds of churches this weekend. The MSM would crucify any Republican that would criticize Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton or even John Kerry for going to a church and talking politics from behind the pulpit. The funny thing is, no Republican would even mention it.In response to Justice Sunday, Drive Democracy and the Clergy and Laity Network have organized “Social Justice Sunday”. Here’s an excerpt of the invitation from the ironically named organization, Building the Beloved Community-

“Progressive religious leaders from around the country are joining with Clergy and Laity Network and DriveDemocracy to take the fight to GOP Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and the extreme right’s unprecedented attack on the constitution and the judiciary. All people of faith in the Louisville area who are outraged by the cynical mix of politics and religion must attend this important public gathering. We cannot let the extreme right speak for us.”

By the way, did I mention this political protest for people of “progressive” faith is being held at a church? One such progressive denomination supporting the Lefty version of the rally, the United Church of Christ, announced two days ago a proposed resolution approving of gay marriage to be voted on this summer. This is the same church that ran the ‘bouncer’ tv ads rejected by many networks found here. The real fear that liberals have over Frist’s participation in Justice Sunday is not just that religious conservatives will like the senator, it’s that undecideds and moderates will like a Harvard educated, well-spoken, sincere man of science and faith come 2008.

Young men on pins and needles, leaders pensive in their war rooms, uniforms being laid out, even racial tensions are high today as Draft Day becomes a reality. Hundreds of college-aged males are sitting by the phone today wondering if they’re going to be called into battle as soon as this coming Fall. Despite all the advances in the past four decades by women’s rights groups, females are still excluded from the draft. Not only excluding women from the draft, whites seem to be less and less ‘needed’ come draft day. Numbers for 2004 show that 69% of the forces currently doing battle are black. Still, the first person selected in the draft today is a white Economics major from the University of Utah named Alex Smith.So far after Smith, draftees #2 through #15 are all black. Upon reading this, Michael Moore is said to be patrolling outside draft headquarters in New York, asking white passers by if they’d sign up their sons for the draft. One local was heard to retort, “If only my lousy no good son could run a 4.3 forty, I’d be livin large on the Jersey shore. Fahgedaboutit! Babba booie babba booie. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!”Jesse Jackson press conference and photo-op pending. Seriously, today’s NFL draft is a far cry from former Washington Redskins owner (from 1932-1969) George Preston Marshall’s quote, “We’ll start signing Negroes when the Harlem Globetrotters start signing whites.”Marshall probably rolled over in his grave when Doug Williams won a super bowl and game MVP for the Skins at QB. The Joe Gibbs coached Skins selected QB Jason Campbell out of Auburn today, a Doug Williams clone (Gibbs coached Williams as well.)Can you name another Redskin QB named Super Bowl MVP? Bill (PunditGuy) can: Mark Rypien from Washington State University. Just don’t ask Bill about another Wazzu QB, Ryan Leaf.
