Although Steve Centanni and his cameraman Olaf Wiig are still being held against their will, at least now we know a little more about the terrorist thugs who took them.

A previously unheard of Palestinian group, the Holy Jihad Brigades, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for kidnapping a Fox News cameraman and correspondent, Al-Jazeera satellite TV reported.

American correspondent Steve Centanni, 60, and cameraman Olaf Wiig, 36, of New Zealand were kidnapped Aug. 14 from their TV van near the Palestinian security services headquarters in Gaza City. Although Palestinian militant groups have often seized foreigners, including members of the media, this is the longest any have been held.

Apparently, the terrorists have demanded that Muslim prisoners in U.S. jails be released within three days in exchange for Centanni and Wiig. The group did not say what would happen if the deadline passed unanswered.

Iran says it’s willing to resume talks

The Iranian government has provided a detailed written response to a package of incentives offered by the United States and other Western nations for Tehran to roll back its nuclear program.

But the Tehran government gave no public indication on whether it would agree to halt uranium enrichment and reprocessing.

Iran’s response has not yet been made public, and diplomats are still poring over the details of the response.

I could save them all sorts of time. The ‘response’ says NOTHING, as in, NOTHING NEW. My guess is Ahmadinejad thru in a bunch of carrot dangling incentives to France and Russia in the hopes they would delay any further inaction by the U.N. The man is building up his nuclear capability. The question is, will the U.S. bow to public pressure and wait for another 20+ do-nothing/say-nothing resolutions to come from the U.N., or will we send Iran a message in the form of a dozen bunker busting missiles surgically placed to bomb their nuke program out of existence?

I think I know the answer already, and it’s got K-O-F-I written all over it.

Tomorrow is August 22, 2006, a designated holy day on the Islamic calendar that is the day of reckoning for Shiites. So what, right?

And guess who’s playin’ up that date? Yep, that’s right. Mike Wallace’s friend Mr. Happy, bubbie Ahmadinejad.

Iran has announced that it will continue to develop its nuclear program. To followers of Iranian President Ahmadinejad, this is a well-timed affront to Israel, the United States and the world. The United Nations had given Iran until the end of the month to respond, but Ahmadinejad had made it clear to all Iranians and the world that he intended to respond on the eve of August 22.

Whether or not this announcement is the end of Ahmadinejad’s plans for August 22, one expert says we will have to wait and watch.

“The only thing we can know is that the date was not chosen by accident,” said Robert Spencer, Director of Jihadwatch.org and an adjunct fellow at the Free Congress Foundation, a conservative think tank. “It does seem very likely, very probable, that he has something major in mind, whether only a major announcement or a major attack, we will soon see.”

Now, we know the man is crazy, but is he really that crazy? I think the answer is “Yes”. And let’s hope the CIA believes the same, and MI6 too, for that matter.

Although I don’t think I would have afforded Karr the luxury of the bologna.

Wining and dining at 35,000 feet gave way Monday to a cramped jail cell, a metal cot and bologna sandwiches as John Mark Karr awaited a hearing to determine when he will be sent to Colorado to face charges in the slaying of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey.

Karr, who was brought back to the United States late Sunday night on a 15-hour business-class flight from Thailand, was immediately locked up in a high-security jail cell to await an extradition hearing Tuesday morning.

High-security jail? Why not let him mingle with the other dudes in the county lockup? I’m sure the conversation would be extremely interesting, and Karr would be voted most popular inmate in no time at all.

Then again, he might like that a little too much.

Authorities sat John Mark Karr in Business Class on a flight from Thailand to Los Angeles, fed him king prawns and filled his glass with champagne.

Legal experts (uh-huh) call it a brilliant move tailor made to relax Karr and get him talking.

I could have gotten him talking.

If it were me in charge of accompanying Mr. Karr back from Thailand, I would have stripped him naked, tied him up and put him down in the cargo hold. Only for six hours or so of course. Then I’d bring him up for around fifteen minutes or so of good ol’ fashioned American style torture. Only fifteen minutes though, then it would have been right back down in the hold for the remainder of the flight. With the lights off.

But that’s just me.

Just how many times can Joe Lieberman be thrown under the bus by his fellow Democrats?

Apparently, there’s no limit.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., blasted a fellow Democrat, Sen. Joe Lieberman, for continuing his bid in the Connecticut Senate race despite a narrow loss to newcomer Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary earlier this month.

“I’m concerned that [Lieberman] is making a Republican case,” Kerry told ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” in an exclusive appearance.

Kerry accused the 2000 Democratic vice presidential candidate of “adopting the rhetoric of Dick Cheney,” on the issue of Iraq.

“Joe Lieberman is out of step with the people of Connecticut,” Kerry added, insisting Lieberman’s stance on Iraq, “shows you just why he got in trouble with the Democrats there.”

Out of step huh? 90% of the time Lieberman voted right down the party line. N-I-N-E-T-Y. Yet that’s just not good enough, since the Democratic Party has handed control of the reigns over to extreme leftists.

And then there’s Kerry. His pandering to Lamont supporters is so transparent. Does this man have no principals of his own? He’ll jump into the first moonbat driven car that pulls up to his mansion in Boston if he believes there are a few votes to be co-opted.
