Dangling the Carrot

It’s got to be just like standing in the middle of a crowded room with your finger on the pin of the grenade.

Bush to Introduce Court Nominee Tonight

President Bush settled on a nominee for the Supreme Court on Tuesday and the White House made arrangements for a nationally televised prime time announcement. “I’ll let you know when I’m ready,” he said at a midday news conference where he declined to tip his hand.

This is a no-win situation. The Democrats will find a dozen reasons why his nominee is unacceptable to them. OK, two dozen. By the same token, the Dobson crowd will also be looking on anxiously. If Bush doesn’t name someone who will give Roe v. Wade a thorough review, they’ll be yellin and a-hollerin.

So what does the president do? He decides to go on the tube and make the announcement during primetime, so he can get the maximum amount of media exposure. Priceless. They don’t call him the most powerful man in the world for no reason.

Meanwhile, people on both sides are wiggin out right about now.

The perfect storm.

He Can’t Control Himself

Gore: New TV Channel Won’t Be Partisan.

Yeah, sure.

Former Vice President Al Gore, co-founder of a new television channel launching next month, said he’s shunning politics – and so is his media venture.

“I consider myself a recovering politician. I’m on step nine,” Gore told a meeting Monday of the Television Critics Association.

Just go read some of his more recent quotes and tell me if Algore can even pretend to be a centrist.

Not a chance.

A Peek Inside a Twisted Mind

A senior Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip draws strength to send young people to commit future attacks by looking at a photograph of his own dead son, he said. The boy’s lifeless face is pictured on his cell phone.

Happy Chappaquiddick Day

On this day back in ’69, US Senator Edward Kennedy’s car drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts killing his 28-year-old companion Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy fled the scene of the accident and received a suspended sentence of two months and one year’s probation.

Even today, Chappaquiddick remains a shady part of Teddy’s past that won’t go away.

Read and hear Teddy’s “explanation” of the events of that night.

Say What?

Paul Begala, TV pundit, Democrat political strategist and charter member of the Clintonistas, had this to say at the Campus Progress National Student Conference:

Republicans, he said, “want to kill us.

“I was driving past the Pentagon when that plane hit” on Sept. 11, 2001. “I had friends on that plane; this is deadly serious to me,” Begala said.

“They want to kill me and my children if they can. But if they just kill me and not my children, they want my children to be comforted — that while they didn’t protect me because they cut my taxes, my children won’t have to pay any money on the money they inherit,” Begala said. “That is bulls*** national defense, and we should say that.”

Begala also included Republican domestic policies in his sweeping criticism. The GOP, he said, “ain’t had a new idea since they opposed Social Security, and guess what, they still do. … They are beginning to figure out that there is no Soviet Union, but they still want Star Wars to stop it,” Begala said.

“Okay, they are utterly and completely brain-dead,” echoing comments earlier this year by Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, who accused Republicans of being “brain dead.”

This is like driving on the Interstate and slowing down to pass-by a massive car accident. You shouldn’t look, you shouldn’t stare, but you have to. The carnage is just too severe to ignore.

Paul Begala has finally gone completely nutso. His thought process is so twisted that it comes out of his mouth as complete psycho-babble.

The Democrats are desperate.
