On this day back in ’69, US Senator Edward Kennedy’s car drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Massachusetts killing his 28-year-old companion Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy fled the scene of the accident and received a suspended sentence of two months and one year’s probation.

Even today, Chappaquiddick remains a shady part of Teddy’s past that won’t go away.

The United Nations has put together a task force to look into regulation of the Internet.

Convicted Olympic bomber Eric Rudolph was sentenced to life in prison without parole today. The judge rendered the sentence after Rudolph angrily denounced abortion and told the federal court “deadly force is needed to stop it.”

Note to Mr. Rudolph: Murder is murder, regardless of who performs it.
