The family of 18-year-old London bomber Hasib Mir Hussain say they are “devastated” by what has happened.
“We, the family of Hasib Mir Hussain, are devastated over the events of the past few days,” they said in Friday’s statement.
“We are having difficulty taking this in. Our thoughts are with all the bereaved families and we have to live ourselves with the loss of our son in these difficult circumstances.
We had no knowledge of his activities and, had we done we would have done everything in our power to stop him.
We urge anyone with information about these events, or leading up to them, to co-operate fully with the authorities. This is a difficult time and we ask you to let us grieve for our son in private.”
Maybe they should have been more aware their son’s friends, who he was seeing, what he was doing, and where he was going?
I, like other bloggers, have a tip jar. Problem with mine is it doesn’t ring. It never gets hit, so it stays empty, unlike others. I don’t go begging for money though since this blogging thing is really a hobby, and I don’t know of many people who expect to be paid for doing something they volunteer to do.
Apparently, readers of other blogs have strong opinions on the whole ‘hitting the tip jar’ request.
A commenter over at Althouse says:
I hate tip jars. Real ones and virtual ones.
I think service providers should charge what they expect to earn, and service workers should be paid what they are worth.
I realize that some workers depend on tips, but it seems archaic.
Perhaps it’s not correct to refer to a virtual tip jar as a tip jar. It’s a tin cup.
Bloggers with few readers are happy just to have readers. Bloggers with lots of readers ought to be happy with that. It’s not like they have to pay for postage stamps and fold newsletters and all that. Through advertising, they can now capitalize on their readership. Sounds like the market works.

Adrian Warnock travelled through Kings Cross in London twice today. He passed by a memorial garden in the station containing flowers and hand written messages.
The first was written on a simple card which was signed “Rt Hon David Blunkett MP” and said:
In sorrow that I was not able to do more to save you
The second was anonymous but spoke volumes:
Where you have sought to spread fear, you will see only greater resolve
Where you have tried to spread division and hatred, you will only see greater love
Where you wanted to see weakness, we will triumph in unbowed strength
That will be our answer to you, in loving memory of all those who have suffered from your hatefulness
The third was written by a child:
Dear God, Help everyone to be kind to each other and to be friends
Cocaine traces have been found at the European Parliament.
The Sat-1 channel sent reporters to take 46 swabs from toilets and other public areas of the Brussels buildings. Nearly all tested positive for cocaine.
A European Parliament spokeswoman said cocaine abuse was not a problem among staff working at the buildings.
A professor who analysed the samples said the amounts found were too great to have been carried in on clothing.
“It simply reflects the fact that cocaine was brought in there,” Professor Fritz Sorgel of the Institute for Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research in Nuremberg (IBMP) told the BBC News website.
“The amount was too high and found in too many spots. It shows it was brought in deliberately.”
Wow, that’s a newsflash. Traces of cocaine, a highly addictive drug, easily available, found in a location inhabited by a lot of people every day of the year.
I think it’d be fun to do the same tests at Buckingham Palace, The White House, The Vatican, The Kremlin, Zhongnanhai, and The Kaaba. I bet you’d find similar traces of coke and a variety of other substances.
