A few more votes and this guy could have been President. What a scary thought.

If you’re a Democrat, I’m sure this statement doesn’t bother you at all. And you probably think that thing that happened on 9/11 was just an unfortunate event that the U.S. brought on itself, most likely because of George W. Bush, the evil liar who fabricated that whole “Iraq has nukes” thing.

I can’t even imagine the kind of danger we’d be in right now if John Kerry was elected.

Just when the polls show that people want the troops out of Iraq, a story like this one is miraculously reported. It works in America, and it works in Britain too.

British troops could leave Iraq by the end of next year, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said on Sunday.

“We don’t want British forces forever in Iraq. Within one year — I think at the end of 2006 — Iraqi troops will be ready to replace British forces in the South,” Talabani told ITV’s Jonathan Dimbleby program.

Talabani also said, however, that an immediate withdrawal of foreign forces would be a “catastrophe” for Iraq and would lead to civil war.

The press and the left desperately want a timeline, or simply a date as to when coalition troops will leave Iraq and come home. Yet we know that a pre-announcement of troop withdrawal will only help the terrorists. So, instead of sticking to our guns and stating that the war will be over when we say it’s over, we draw straws and let the winner be the source for a story of false hope.

And you know what? It works.

This story will satisfy the press for another couple of months, when they’ll demand yet another timetable. The U.S. and our Allies will easily find another General, or official somewhere who will be willing to stand up and throw out another date.

Come late January, I’ll expect to read another one of these stories.

And who could blame ’em?

Some 1,100 Iraqi lawyers have withdrawn from Saddam Hussein’s defense team, citing insufficient protection following the slayings of two peers representing co-defendants of the ousted Iraqi leader.

In a statement obtained Sunday, the lawyers did not say whether Saddam’s chief Iraqi attorney, Khalil al-Dulaimi, was among those who withdrew. But the statement said other members of the team in Baghdad were continuing their duties “under complex and dangerous circumstances.”

How the tables have turned. The Baath Party spread so much fear over the Iraqi people that no one was willing to do or say anything that didn’t align with the wishes of Saddam. Now there are those who will do anything to prevent the chance that Saddam might return to power. So, you have defense lawyers who quit to avoid an untimely death and defense witnesses who won’t come forward because they fear reprisals.

This trial is going to make Nuremberg look like Romper Room.
