Former President Carter Swears

Via Reuters:

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on Thursday harshly criticized his own country and other wealthy states for being stingy with foreign aid and said in rich countries “We really don’t give a damn.”

Oooh…he said the “D” word!

Blatant Headline Manipulation

Via LGF: How’s this for ‘shaping’ the news?

“U.S. Has No Exit Strategy for Iraq, Rumsfeld Says”

That’s what screams in 32 point type from the Bloomberg website. In reality, this is what Rumsfeld said.

“We don’t have an exit strategy, we have a victory strategy,” Rumsfeld told soldiers during a surprise visit to Baghdad, according to a pooled broadcast report from the capital. “The goal is to help the Iraqi Forces develop the skills and the capacity to provide their own security.”

The editor who chose to run this story using this headline should be fired.

In Denmark (of all places)

They ‘get it’.

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark said: “We are being challenged by Islam these years – globally as well as locally. It is a challenge we have to take seriously. We have let this issue float about for too long because we are tolerant and lazy.

“We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance.”

“And when we are tolerant, we must know whether it is because of convenience or conviction.”

Answer: I Had Better Stuff To Do

Question: Why are there hardly any posts today?

My parents took my four kids for two days, so me and the PunditWife went north to Canada and just did ‘stuff’. We haven’t done ‘stuff’ like this for years. We had a great day.

Back to bloggin tomorrow.

COTV (Reloaded)

I didn’t link to this weeks Carnival of the Vanities because Dr. Zen did a crappy job (in my opinion). Then suddenly, Laurence Simon came in to save the day. He took it upon himself to completely redo the carnival, in the way it should have been done in the first place.

Bravo Mr. Simon.
