Politics: It’s All About Getting Elected, Then Reelected

Paul Hackett, a popular Democratic candidate in Ohio’s Senate race has dropped out of the contest, and has announced his withdrawal from politics. On first glance you would immediately believe that health problems are prompting Hackett’s decision. Nope. Hackett’s getting out due to the ‘mafia like’ tactics brought on by his ‘friends’ – Senator Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.

Mr. Hackett said Senators Charles E. Schumer of New York and Harry Reid of Nevada, the same party leaders who he said persuaded him last August to enter the Senate race, had pushed him to step aside so that Representative Sherrod Brown, a longtime member of Congress, could take on Senator Mike DeWine, the Republican incumbent.

During the last two weeks, he said, state and national Democratic Party leaders have urged him to drop his Senate campaign and again run for Congress.

“This is an extremely disappointing decision that I feel has been forced on me,” said Mr. Hackett, whose announcement comes two days before the state’s filing deadline for candidates. He said he was outraged to learn that party leaders were calling his donors and asking them to stop giving and said he would not enter the Second District Congressional race.

You see, it’s all about grabbing a seat and holding power, not about the ideas, the plans, or the implementation of positive solutions for the problems America faces. It’s not about what you do in office, it’s what you do to keep your office.

Democratic leaders say Representative Brown, a seven-term incumbent from Avon, has a far better chance of toppling Senator DeWine.

“It boils down to who we think can pull the most votes in November against DeWine,” said Chris Redfern, chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party. “And in Ohio, Brown’s name is golden. It’s just that simple.”

Mr. Fern added that Mr. Brown’s fund-raising abilities made him the better Senate candidate. By the end of last year, Mr. Brown had already amassed $2.37 million, 10 times what Mr. Hackett had raised.

Electability, then reelectability.

I’m not about to accuse the Democrats of exclusively using strategies like this, since I believe it’s a bipartisan problem. And you know what? It’s our fault. We Americans get all excited about electing ‘our guy’ to Congress, or to the Presidency, then suddenly, the excitement stops. We don’t actually require that our leaders do anything, or so it seems. If we did care, we wouldn’t reelect the same ‘ol bloviating do nothing wind bags term after term after term. We buy into their election year promises, giveaways, and pandering. We become intoxicated by their smile, their ‘can do’ attitude, and their sudden burst of leadership. It’s really about feeling good, and when you hear your guy selling patriotism with all the pomp and circumstance, you naturally want to stand up and cheer. Yet, when we see the same guy sitting on a congressional committee panel droning on and on using big words that don’t really mean anything, we change the channel.

But, it is what it is and there doesn’t seem to be anything that will change it, unless of course, Americans engage and become interested in the future of their country.

Don’t hold your breath on that happening anytime soon.

A Liberal Translation of a Bush Speech

Based on the way Democrats react to every action and every utterance from the Bush Administration, it’s clear that Liberals interpret the president’s words differently than Conservatives do. I’ve often wondered what the Left actually hears when they listen to a speech by George W. Bush.

Well, now I know.

Time Magazine’s Abramoff Photo

They’ve got to be kidding right? Time goes to great lengths to push this WEB EXCLUSIVE story which purports to show Bush alongside disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, but when we actually see the photo, it’s laughable. Yeah, sure, Abramoff appears to be in the same room as George W., but it looks like he’s 100 yards away from the president.

Do you know how easy it would be to create a photo like this in PhotoShop?

Puhleeze.

Muslims See Divinity, I See Ribeye

Mmmm, I’m hungry.

THOUSANDS of people flocked to southern Egypt today to seek blessing from a calf they believe was born as God’s reply to the publication in Europe of cartoons depicting the prophet, police said.

Some 20,000 thousand people had gathered in front of Mohammed Abu Dif’s house in the village of Tunis to see the holy mammal, whose skin folds when he was born reportedly formed the words “There is no God but Allah”, a police official said on condition of anonymity.

He said the villagers flocked from all over the southern governorate of Sohag to the farmer’s house and had to be dispersed by police, who feared the gathering could get out of control.

Witnesses said they believed the calf was “Allah’s response to current attacks against Islam”, the official said.

He was referring to the publication in a Danish daily five months ago of cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, which is banned in Islam.

OK, I’ll say it.

Holy Cow.

Now that we’ve got that over with…let’s eat.

Ribeye

New Photo For Dart Board

Phew! I was hoping to replace my old Saddam photo. That one has too many dart holes in it now and it’s hard to actually see the tyrant’s eyes, which is where I always aim. Thing’s will be much better though, now that I’ve found this one.

2006_02_13t062225_334x450_us_iraq_witness

Oh, and yeah, he was brought into court again today, he yelled at the judge, refused to testify, and called Bush a criminal.

Just another ‘normal’ session in Saddam’s ‘trial’.

Al Gore: Former Vice President, Current Traitor

A speech by Al Gore used to be written off as typical political grandstanding, but all that has changed. Now, it’s not that easy to understand the motivations of the former Vice President of the United States. These days, he’s talking more like an insurgent than a statesman (not that he ever really was one).

Gorered

The latest Gore sting comes from Saudi Arabia, where the jihadist spoke earlier today in front of attendees of the Jeddah Economic Forum.

Michelle Malkin gives the speech a well deserved skewering, and she links to other blogger reaction.

UPDATE: Gore paid by event sponsors, the Bin Laden family.

How To Create A Scandal 101

After news came out this weekend about the hunting accident involving Vice President Dick Cheney, the MSM and lefty blogs have been going nuts over the fact that the news wasn’t reported for 18 hours after the fact. With tin foil hats firmly in place, the wackos are adding all the ingredients in hopes of creating a full-on scandal. The goal?

Take out Dick Cheney.

The more than 18-hour delay in news emerging that the Vice President of the United States had shot a man, sending him to an intensive care unit with his wounds, grew even more curious late Sunday. E&P has learned that the official confirmation of the shooting came about only after a local reporter in Corpus Christi, Texas, received a tip from the owner of the property where the shooting occurred and called Vice President Cheney’s office for confirmation.

The confirmation was made but it is not known for certain that Cheney’s office, the White House, or anyone else intended to announce the shooting if the reporter, Jaime Powell of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, had not received word from the ranch owner.

Here is the question the left will cling on to and not let go of this week:

“How is it that Vice President Cheney can shoot a man, albeit accidentally, on Saturday during a hunting trip and the American public not be informed of it until today?”

Democrat talking points have been built, printed out, and distributed. Watch for the left to infiltrate the cable news television shows.

In the end though, it will amount to nothing, and the left will be left with another illegitimate controversy of their own making which doesn’t resonate with the American public.

What a waste of time.

Cheney Shoots, Politics Ensues

After the report today about Dick Cheney’s hunting accident, I read this crap.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ — James and Sarah Brady made comments today related to Vice President Cheney’s reportedly accidental shooting yesterday in Texas.

“Now I understand why Dick Cheney keeps asking me to go hunting with him,” said Jim Brady. “I had a friend once who accidentally shot pellets into his dog – and I thought he was an idiot.”

“I’ve thought Cheney was scary for a long time,” Sarah Brady said. “Now I know I was right to be nervous.”

Those who hate Bush, Cheney, or anyone associated with their administration will take any opportunity they can to make political hay from bona fide accidents that occur. It was Bush falling from bikes before, and now it’s gonna be the gun-toting wild-eyed Veep who is so mean he’ll shoot his own friends.

I wish politics was just about politics.
