$17 Million Per Year

April 29, 2022 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

The lawyer whose role it was to be Twitter’s chief censor might just be on her way to collecting a pink slip if new owner Elon Musk has his way.

Vijaya Gadde, who earned $17 million last year as Twitter’s top legal counsel, could be on the chopping block as Musk is reportedly planning to slash jobs and reduce executive pay as he looks to secure financing for his Twitter bid.

After disclosing plans to acquire the company earlier this month, Musk expressed “no confidence” in Twitter’s current management — which doesn’t bode well for their future once he takes the helm later this year.

$17 million dollars. One employee’s salary.

Makes you want to know the other salaries of Twitter’s existing management. I’ve said that Silicon Valley pay is crazy. But does the average American really know how crazy? They’re getting a look at it now. Will Elon expose the outrageous pay rates for other Twit’s in leadership? Unlikely given his net worth. But if more stories like the one above are written in the coming days, we’ll likely end up getting a peak into more than just take home pay.

I wonder what those unqualified board members get paid?

At least Twitter is fun again.

Olympic Fail — Right Hand Still Hasn't Met Left Hand

July 30, 2012 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

U.S. viewers are forced to wait until 8 PM to view Olympic games that ended 9 hours earlier. Meanwhile, the web knows no time delay, and results are available instantly. NBC television is stuck in the 1980’s, as if no one gets any current information but from them. People are getting kicked off of Twitter for criticizing the network. And now…

…parents can’t even watch their athlete sons and daughters at the venue.

London had years to prepare for this. Why have they fumbled?

NBC Television must have plenty of twenty and thirty something’s employed by the company. Didn’t anyone ask them about the wisdom of sequestering live game action? Sure, NBC has an iPad app for folks who want to watch in real time, but have you seen the app ratings? It barely garners one star in the app store. Users hate it. Not because you have to have a cable subscription to MSNBC or CNBC through your local provider. They hate it because it just plain sucks.

Oh well. Maybe Brazil will get it right.

You mean, you can actually know what your customers are thinking?

May 11, 2011 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

While this falls into the “duh” category for most businesses, it is actually a revelation to book publishers. Their customers have traditionally been middle men – distributors, brick and mortar stores, wholesalers, etc. For the most part, their real customer (the reader) has been elusive. At least, elusive within the means of the publishing house. Pre-Internet, it was acceptable for a publisher not to have a direct relationship with the reader. But now, there’s no excuse to not know your customer – their wants, needs, desires. One only needs to look to social networking for the answer. You just might need to thicken up your skin though. Customers will tell you the truth, not to your face of course, but to others, in public, on the internet. You’ll want to monitor specific places to eavesdrop into their conversations. Don’t worry, you’re not invading anyone’s privacy. Your customers will gladly allow you to drop in on the conversation.

Stephen Palmer at Beyond the Cover gives some hints on what to do if you’re a publisher in need of customer information.

Jury Duty and Twitter Don't Mix

March 15, 2009 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

A Walmart photo department manager twittered details of his experience while sitting on a jury in a $12 million dollar lawsuit. The plaintiff lost, but now his lawyer is appealing. At issue is Twitter post timestamps and whether some of the posts betray bias before the jury finished deliberating.
