About that Poll from Quinnipiac/CBS

August 1, 2012 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

It really is BS. At least as far as the sampling goes, and isn’t that what makes a poll stand or fall? Folks are getting panicky, so be prepared to see more suspect polls as the weeks roll by.

The only poll that matters, by the way, is the one taken on November 6, 2012.

Dan Rather, The Forgeries and the Tarnish on the Tiffany Network

April 16, 2012 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

8 years ago, the internet erupted with news that CBS, and specifically Dan Rather, reported a politically timed story aimed at damaging George W. Bush’s reelection. When the dust settled, there were forged documents, firings, and the unceremonious retirement of Mr. Rather.

TexasMonthly recounts the story in all its glory.

NYT: Never mind…

July 26, 2010 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

No one can find evidence that Tea Party demonstrators hurled racial epithets on March 20, 2010, at Representative John Lewis, Democrat of Georgia and members of the Congressional Black Caucus. And you can bet people have tried. Andrew Breitbart has even offered to give $100,000 to the United Negro College Fund once evidence is found. Even though members of the MSM, liberal pundits and the Democrat party state the offense as fact, no video or audio of the event exists. Finally, the New York Times gave up.

The Political Times column last Sunday, about a generational divide over racial attitudes, erroneously linked one example of a racially charged statement to the Tea Party movement. While Tea Party supporters have been connected to a number of such statements, there is no evidence that epithets reportedly directed in March at Representative John Lewis, Democrat of Georgia, outside the Capitol, came from Tea Party members.

Does the debate over this unfortunate rumor end here? Of course not. The “Tea Party is filled with racists” narrative is widely disseminated as a factual event. No evidence is needed, apparently.

Still, it’s nice to see a little crow on the menu at The Gray Lady.

Charlie Rangel Will Resign This Week

July 24, 2010 by PunditGuy Leave a Comment

At least Tunku Varadarajan of The Daily Beast thinks so.

He’s an embarrassment, and a hindrance to his party’s 2010 fortunes.

Rangel is toast.

The senior news analyst for NPR and Washington veteran journalist has died.

Schorr died Friday at a Washington hospital after a brief illness, said Anna Christopher, a spokeswoman for National Public Radio, where Schorr continued to work as a senior news analyst and commentator.

Schorr’s career of more than six decades spanned the spectrum of journalism — beginning in print, then moving to television where he spent 23 years with CBS News and ending with NPR. He also wrote several books, including his memoir, "Staying Tuned: A Life in Journalism."
