In case you missed it, read the debate.

One can always count on Hewitt to give a good round-up of debate night comments. Tonight, he doesn’t disappoint.

I think Bush did a great job. He did better than John Kerry tonight. But, my question is, who signed up Bob Schieffer to moderate this thing? His questions were mostly worthless. He threw softballs to John Kerry. Flu vaccine? Bush handled the answer effectively, but come on! What’s with the cackle at the end of the debate? Schieffer asks John Kerry to “explain his tax plan again.” What in the world is that? He gets another chance to explain? Unreal.

Do we need 3 debates? Nothing changed tonight…the same answers we’ve heard in the past two debates, just less smirk.

UPDATE: From the views of many in the blogosphere, lots of other contributors also thought Schieffer sucked big time tonight.

Bubbie vs. The GOP. This is totally outrageous. (wait for the video to start)

From the BBC – “Moscow schoolchildren will soon have to wear military-style dog tags and carry special “passports” as part of a security drive in the wake of Beslan.” So, this is where we are now. The war symbolism is scary – kids wearing dog tags. Each day, parents will have to send their children to school knowing that they might not come home.

Finally, Allawi flexes his muscle and slams down an ultimatum. This should have come months ago.

Germany won’t commit troops to Iraq today, but won’t completely rule out the thought for the future. Gee, isn’t that comforting. They especially like John Kerry’s summit idea.

Germany would certainly attend, Peter Struck, the German defense minister said.

This is a very sensible proposal. The situation in Iraq can only be cleared up when all those involved sit together at one table.

Someone be sure to call Zarqawi and give him the time/date for this little chit chat.

Germany has taken on responsibilities in Iraq, including financial ones; this would naturally justify our involvement in such a conference.

Uh, yeah, financial responsibilities…like a program called “Oil for Food”, right?

Mr. Struck said Germany’s attendance at the conference proposed by Mr. Kerry did not mean Berlin would immediately deploy troops. Analysts in Berlin argue that a Kerry victory would increase pressure on Germany to step up its involvement in Iraq, even though public opinion is still firmly against the US role in Iraq and against any heightened German engagement.

Oh yeah, this is the kind of steadfast resolve we need in an ally. Way to go Schroder.
