Specter: Mr. Chairman

Specter elected chairman of Senate Judiciary Committee.

Following a drawn-out political melodrama triggered by his own intemperate remarks, Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., was elected chairman Tuesday of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee. The vote was 10-0 among fellow Republicans on the panel.

Watch him like a hawk.

Ickes, Kirk: Out of DNC Chair Race

Via Newsday:

Former Clinton aide Harold Ickes and former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk let top Democrats know Tuesday that they won’t be running for chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Ickes, a longtime Democratic activist, let party members know he would not be running.

“I just decided I probably did not have enough of the attributes (a chairman needs) to do the party justice,” Ickes said in an interview.

OK, that means Dean is practically a shoe in for the job. I think that’s the real reason Ickes got out. Besides, he wants to be clear of the implosion that will occur when Dean and the Deaniacs run the party into the ground. When that happens, Ickes will be available to ride Hillary’s rescue train ‘o love into the 2008 campaign.

MBA To The Rescue!

Thanks to the great folks at the Media Bloggers Association, I’m back in the business of serving up tsunami amateur home videos. As some of you know, late last week I was forced to remove the tsunami videos I was hosting due to a rather onerous bandwidth overage
charge of $1,000. Because of problems like mine the MBA recently announced the Tsunami Video Hosting Initiative, a public service offered in response to concerns over bandwidth issues facing bloggers providing a public service by offering video of the tsunami to the world.

These people deserve our thanks. Please head on over to their site and let them know that they’re doing a great job!
