Late Night Link Fest

Lots going on today, and not a lot of time to blog. So, it’s link fest time.

Feel free to include your link in a trackback.

YYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Howard Dean on the road to DNC Chair, via the Washington Times:

Dean has been working to focus his on-the-ground qualifications as much as his broad vision for building a progressive majority in the U.S. political sphere. The former Vermont governor entered the race last week, ending weeks of would-he, wouldn’t-he whispers. Speculation had assumed he would prove too progressive for the post, but Dean appears to be solidifying support through a campaign working delegate to delegate — much like his scheme to win over U.S. voters.

“The Democratic Party will not win elections or build a lasting majority solely by changing its rhetoric, nor will we win by adopting the other side’s positions,” Dean said in a statement officially announcing his candidacy.

Winning over DNC hearts…we already know where their heads are.

Hear the Wailing

William Safire in today’s NYT (reg required):

The bloggers are coming! The Bible-thumpers are cursing our secular inhumanism! The plumber judges are plugging our leaks! The Yahoo president ducks our questions and giggles at our gaffes! News is slyly slanted as bias rears its head!

Speaking to his colleagues, Safire believes that mainstream journalism has a future.

Tsunami: America’s Fault

So says the UN, via The Independent:

Scientists at the Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii did not use an existing rapid telecommunications system set up to get warnings around the world almost instantly because the bureaucratic arrangements were not in place.

UN officials have revealed that the scientists did not use the World Meteorological Organisation’s global telecommunication system to contact Indian Ocean countries because the “protocols were not in place”.

Whatever.
