Hillary’s Wasted Clarion Call

More of the same actually, and there’s still no ‘there’, there.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Wednesday accused Republicans of “playing the fear card” of terrorism to win elections and said Democrats cannot keep quiet if they want to win in November.

The New York Democrat, facing re-election this year and considered a potential White House candidate in 2008, said Republicans won the past two elections on the issue of national security and “they’re doing it to us again.”

She said a speech by presidential adviser Karl Rove two weeks ago showed the GOP election message is: “All we’ve got is fear and we’re going to keep playing the fear card.”

In that speech, Rove suggested Republicans can prevail in 2006 by showing Democrats had undermined terrorism-fighting efforts by questioning Bush’s authority to allow wiretapping without getting court approval first.

Clinton said a convention of United Auto Workers that Democrats should not be afraid to question Bush’s handling of the war.

“I take a back seat to nobody when it comes to fighting terrorism and standing up for national homeland security,” she said.

Referring to fugitive al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, Clinton said, “You cannot explain to me why we have not captured or killed the tallest man in Afghanistan.”

Hillary might want to ask her husband about that, since he had a number of opportunities to take the man out, but didn’t.

The real story here is the cry from Hillary for a ‘voice’. She has her own goals, her own political aspirations, yet she belongs to a party which isn’t a party. The Democrat leadership make up a group of people who are saying different things, have different goals, and individual political aspirations. Hillary, on her own, cannot achieve the goals she’s set out. She needs the DNC for backup. She needs the DNC to echo her words. It must be frustrating for Hillary, in that she cannot impose imperial rule upon the likes of Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi or Al Gore. They could clearly care less about Hillary’s political future.

Sometimes, Traditions Need to Die

Traditions are good things, but eventually, they change, or they come to a natural end on their own. Some traditions continue when they should have been killed off years ago.

Helen Thomas is a White House Press Corps tradition that needs to end.

Her extreme bias against Republicans and this administration in general can no longer be restrained it seems, since she has taken to asking loaded questions which serve no real purpose other than to provide Helen with a platform for pushing a radical leftist viewpoint. Helen doesn’t seek the facts. She’s not interested in reporting the news.

Her colleagues in the MSM are quick to note that Helen has covered every president since John F. Kennedy, as if somehow she represents the very essence of what it means to be ‘a White House Correspondent’. She’s become an institution in their eyes. They celebrated her coronation decades ago. Yet I would believe most Americans see the Helen Thomas of today in a completely different light than the Helen Thomas of the Reagan era, or even the Clinton era. With each biased comment and snide remark, the American people see Helen for what she’s become.

How many young reporters are looking for a role model who’s epitaph will include the words “biased, mean spirited, radically partisan editorialist”?

Maybe it’s simply an ‘age’ thing? After all, Helen is no spring chicken, and as anyone who’s family includes with an aging parent or grandparent would attest to, these types get a bit crotchety in their sunset years. That would be fine if the MSM would characterize Helen as a partisan, but they don’t. She’s still considered to be an objective reporter covering the White House beat.

Ending a tradition is never an easy thing to do. Most of the time, attrition ultimately solves the matter. One can hope it will come knock, knock, knocking on Helen’s door…and soon.

What a Waste

Rap music stars, a video shoot, egos, a confrontation and bullets. Now, three kids will grow up without a Dad.

Cartoon Caper – Week 2

The Muhammad cartoon craziness continues. Buildings have been burned, mobs have protested, threats of death have been hurled aimlessly. And now today, there’s word of at least 4 deaths associated with the demonstrations. On American soil, the Left has thrown their hat into the ring by telling the world that this, like everything else in recent history, is Bush’s fault.

How boring.

Jim over at Gateway Pundit continues to provide wall-to-wall coverage of this event, and Michelle Malkin remains firmly entrenched in the story.
