CRONKITE: KARL ROVE BEHIND BIN LADEN TAPE?

Former CBSNEWS anchorman Walter Cronkite believes Bush adviser Karl Rove is possibly behind the new Bin Laden tape.

Cronkite made the startling comments late Friday during an interview on CNN.

Somewhat smiling, Cronkite said he is “inclined to think that Karl Rove, the political manager at the White House, who is a very clever man, he probably set up bin Laden to this thing.”

Interviewer Larry King did not ask Cronkite to elaborate on the provocative election eve observation.

I live in the extreme upper northwestern part of Washington State. In fact, I’m only a few miles from the Canadian border. Unlike the typically wet Seattle area, we are lucky enough to enjoy weather that comes out of a valley in British Columbia. That’s great in the Summer, but bad in the Winter. So, what does this have to do with light blogging on a Saturday? It means that I have to spend the day “winterizing” my home. You know…taking down the random furniture that is still outside, placing styrofoam inserts into the vents in the foundation, general cleaning and “battening” down of the premises.

Never fear though, because I am an obsessed news junkie, and am especially neurotic being that the election is only in 3 days away, I’m never that far away from my friend “Dell”.

Reaction: Babbling. I can’t make anything of it. Just incessant babbling.

Via MSNBC: Analyst: Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Rick Francona, a Middle East specialist and former military official at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, said the tape appeared to have been made very recently. He noted that bin Laden refers to Kerry and to the possibility of election problems next week in Florida.

Al Jazeera reports a new video tape from Osama bin Laden will air on their network today.

UPDATE: Osama bin Laden, in video broadcast on Al-Jazeera television, accuses U.S. President George W. Bush of ‘misleading’ the American people four years after the Sept. 11 attacks…

MORE: CNN reports the following bin Laden quote: “Americans’ security does not depend on the president they elect, but on U.S. policy. “Your security is not in the hands of Kerry or Bush or al Qaeda.”

Early reports out of Los Angeles say a local Imam is claiming that the terrorist shown on the video tape obtained by ABC News is Adam Gadahn.
