Should I Stay Or Should I Go?

I’m considering switching from TypePad to Movable Type. There are a number of reasons, some of which include template customization, bandwidth allotment, etc. Recently, I saw this offer and I began to think seriously about making the move. I started with TypePad because I didn’t want to go through all of the Movable Type installation hassles. I’ve got the technical aptitude to do it, but I don’t have the time. TypePad made this VERY easy – two minutes and I was up and running.

I’d like to know FIRST if anyone has experience with Mediatemple or LivingDot. SECOND, I’d like to hear from anyone who has signed up for this deal or this deal. Better yet, if you’ve been on TypePad and made the move using one of the these offers, I REALLY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Thanks.

  1. I’m actually in the middle of the migration over to LivingDot.

Thus far I have needed to ask for help twice – both times I received responses in less than five minutes. Their customer service is excellent.

I’m a bit concerned with the amount of time that it is taking for my domain name to get switched from my current ISP to LivingDot, but I think that will be resolved shortly.

I’m also a bit concerned with the lack of written support that I’ve found on their web site – like you I generally have the technical expertise to do this, but I’d prefer to not spend the time. So if I get hung up on something I’ll have to write a help ticket or figure it out myself which isn’t very time efficient.

But, the team over at LivingDot are helpful and fast, and I think in the end this is going to be a very positive move – I can finally have my blog the way I want it, for a much cheaper cost…the only problem now is finding stuff to write about which falls into a theme.

    Best of luck,
    -Jess

    MIGRATING COMPLETE

I’ve just finished the migration process from TypePad to Movable Type – and despite the fact that at times it was tedious, it was well worth it in the end. I chose to go with LivingDot.com which has turned out…
