Live 8 Doesn't Matter

If you are at least 30 years old, you may remember the Live Aid concerts performed back in 1985. Today, Live 8 was announced, and once again the event is being organized by Bob Geldof.

Live8

Bob Geldof unveiled plans for a repeat of 1985’s Live Aid concert, called Live 8, to highlight the ongoing problem of global poverty and debt. The free event will be held in London’s Hyde Park on 2 July with concerts in Philadelphia, Paris, Rome and Berlin.

Dear Mr. Geldof,

I hate to break it to you, but the people (teenagers) who attend your free concert will be there to see whomever shows up. They will not attend the show as a sign of solidarity to end world hunger. They will not leave the show and change their consumption habits either. In fact, 24 hours after the concert, I bet 99% of them won’t remember any of the overtly political messages blurted from the stage. All the pontificating that will go on between acts and between songs will go in one ear and out the other. Oh, you’ll hear cheers and applause alright…but don’t make more out of it than it is. Crowds like these will cheer the breaking of wind.

And the line up…Could you have picked a more boring and predictable cast of characters? Elton John campaigning against poverty! Is that some kind of joke? The (girly)man spends £100,000 a year on flowers! For all of your high intentions this is just another opportunity for millionaire rock stars to massage their egos and quell their consciences.

Like the previous concert in 1985, in the end, Live 8 will change nothing.

Yes, stop the slavery, but the bracelets are pointless, too

So, as my friend Michael says, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and Bob Geldorf didn’t know these silly-assed bracelets were being made by slave-laborers.

That said, am I the only one who thinks these bracelets are as pointless as Ger…

  2. Oh well… it’s not what you do…

… but whether or not you had good intentions:Wristbands sold to raise money for a campaign against world poverty are made in mainland sweatshops in

  3. Geldof’s “Live 8” Meaningless

Pundit Guy notes that Bob Geldof of “Live AID” fame is planning a new event for world poverty and under called “Live 8,” and says it won’t make any real difference

If these pompous idiotic mindless “rock stars” think they can change world society, corrupt african dictators and the spending habits of the entire western society they are even more blind by their own sense of self importance than i previously thought.
Most of the money from live aid and most other charities for africa went straight into the pockets of africas ruling class,as the pundit guy says these stupendously rich “rock stars” are appeasing their own feelings of guilt and showing themselves in their minds as modern day saints when in reality they all without exception are greedy, pathetic, hypocritical, self serving tossers.
Dont they know how insulting their self promoting speil is to the dignified people of Africa and if so do they really care?
And i find it rather interesting that Elton Johns imediate family are struggling to pay their mortgage on a very modest council house his mother died penniless and he hasnt spoke to his own brother in thirty years and dont they say charity begins at home
yes this miserable wretch is the perfect example of this pile of mindless morons

  5. Oh!!!! You all sound so cynical!!!! Get off you butts and do something about it instead of trying to tear off the heads of the people who are working hard to stop all this nonsense that is going on in Africa! These people don’t want to starve their governments are giving them no choice in the matter. They are starving and keep their citizens in the most impoverished conditions around. While we all sit in our posh homes and eat the finest meals around! We should ALL be ashamed of ourselves for living as we do and not sharing the wealth that we have. We should feel ashamed of every bite we eat, every piece of clothes we wear, and every bit of luxury that we have. We should all put up or shut up. We all need to get on these countries butts to stop using their money for war and help their own people survive and raise their standard of living up for them instead of down. You people all are talking like some flaming idiots who would rather tear Mr. Geldof to pieces for what he is doing instead of getting off your ass and doing something like he is and others that are participating! Instead of writing how this person is doing that and this and that…do something for your fellow man for once!!!
