Ahmadinejad Came In 3rd Place

According to leaked results of the actual vote in Iran over the weekend, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came in 3rd place, not first as originally reported.

The statistics, circulated on Iranian blogs and websites, claimed Mr Mousavi had won 19.1 million votes while Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had won only 5.7 million.

The two other candidates, reformist Mehdi Karoubi and hardliner Mohsen Rezai, won 13.4 million and 3.7 million respectively. The authenticity of the leaked figures could not be confirmed.

Mr Mousavi has accused Iran’s government of “fraud” after Mr Ahmadinejad was declared on Saturday to have 62.6 per cent of the vote, making him the landslide winner. The capital has been rocked by disturbances for the last three days.

No wonder they’re rioting.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post reports today that a public opinion survey of Iranians three weeks before the vote showed Ahmadinejad leading by a more than 2 to 1 margin — greater than his actual apparent margin of victory in Friday’s election. Why this is news I have no idea. Didn’t Sadam Hussein get reelected by 98% of Iraqis a few years ago? Was that supposed to reflect genuine love for the dictator? Of course not. We didn’t believe it then and we don’t now.

Since polling is so rare in Iran, those who were asked how they would vote were no doubt wondering who was really asking the question. Was it a polling company or was it the Iranian government? Clearly, fear played a part in the results of the poll.

I’m afraid none of this will end peacefully anytime soon. As of this writing, people  are being gunned down in Tehran.

Tehran Live

Just came across this site after browsing over at Bill Quick’s place. It’s called “Tehran 24” and the folks there are doing a great job chronicling the protests and demonstrations that have been going non-stop since the fixed election results were announced yesterday. Go check ’em out.

Sotomayor: An Intellectual Lightweight

Jonathan Turley, a constitutional law professor at George Washington University of Law, and frequent talking head on the cable news stations, is typically a pretty consistent liberal. That’s why this statement from him is so puzzling. I was ready to hear him give a ringing endorsement of the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. Surprisingly, he comes out against Obama’s pick. Maybe he’s just sore that he got passed over?

Sotomayor

President Barack Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to be the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice today, and the media is responding as expected. The White House narrative is being adhered to with stunning precision.

The real problem will be defeating her nomination. It will be impossible to do. If any Republican tries, the Democrats will immediately scream racism. The Democrats will accuse Republicans of the worst kind of discrimination. The media will gladly take the bait and run with the meme. What’s more, I can’t think of one Republican who would have the guts to deny her the seat on the court.

The Republicans are too afraid of losing what’s left of the Hispanic vote to stand on principal.

So, the only thing to do is highlight her record. Pour through her past decisions and bring to light her controversial statements. Expose Sotomayor as a leftist bench legislator. Make this a case against Barack Obama. For every mention of a wacko liberal decision made by Sotomayor, link it to a current policy of Barack Obama and use it to educate voters who still see the man as a modern day Christ.

It’s the only thing the Republicans can do. But, it won’t be enough.

Sonia Sotomayor will be confirmed, and the country will suffer through her policy making for decades to come.

Today's Quote of the Day

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, May 21st, 2009.

“If liberals are unhappy about some decisions, and conservatives are unhappy about other decisions, then it may seem to them that the President is on the path of sensible compromise. But in the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground, and half-measures keep you half exposed.

“You cannot keep just some nuclear-armed terrorists out of the United States, you must keep every nuclear-armed terrorist out of the United States. Triangulation is a political strategy, not a national security strategy. There is never a good time to compromise when the lives and safety of the American people are in the balance.”

Calm, measured, logical common sense.

Gingrich: Pelosi Dishonest, Vicious, Trivial and a Liar

“I don’t think the Speaker of the House can lie to the country on national security. This isn’t politics, this is national security.”

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich unloads on current Speaker Nancy Pelosi. His outrage is well placed and his articulation is crystal clear. Newt should appear on as many cable news outlets as he can and repeat this 4+ minute political confrontation. He should be on each Sunday news program this weekend.

On the other hand…

A year from now will any of this matter? We’re a country of sheep, led by an empty suit with a messianic complex. The majority of Americans can’t even identify Nancy Pelosi, and they definitely don’t understand the importance of this issue.

But this is a very big deal. I fear that U.S. service men and women will lose their lives because of the derelict Nancy Pelosi and her extreme lapse of judgement. Her self centered power grab is obscene. Pelosi and her leftist special interest groups are willing to throw anyone under the bus for political gain.

One year from now we may not be talking about Pelosi and whether or not she was briefed on waterboarding. But a year from now Americans will have suffered because of her, and our national security will be even further weakened. Our enemies are waiting.

Nancy Pelosi Lies

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi today accused the CIA of lying to her regarding the use of waterboarding and other enhanced interrogation techniques employed by the Bush administration after 9/11.

The CIA isn’t the liar in this case. Nancy Pelosi is.

Pelosi gives conflicting reports almost hourly.

  1. She claimed she was never briefed on the use of enhanced interrogation techniques.
  2. She stated she had not been briefed about the use of water boarding.
  3. She confessed she did attend a briefing but there was no talk of any enhanced interrogation techniques.
  4. She confessed she was briefed but she wasn’t made clear on the definition of the techniques used.
  5. Today, she confessed she was briefed but was never told about the fact that waterboarding had been used on a terrorist suspect, even though terrorist suspect Abu Zubaydah had been waterboarded a month before she was briefed on the subject in Sept. 2002.

And it goes on and on…

Question: Does it matter that one of the left’s most revered leaders is a blatant liar?

Yes, it does. And Pelosi is a liar. She was fully aware of the use of enhanced interrogation techniques and is now only trying to cloud the fact that she knew from the beginning that the Bush Administration was actively employing the practice. It wasn’t very important to her to fret about “torture” back then, but now it’s in her best interest to use it as a political sledge hammer. That hammer is about to fall squarely on her own head.

The politicizing of our national security must end.

Dodd Admits He Made the AIG Bonus Mess Possible

Yesterday he said he had no idea how any of this happened. Today (and after a huge outcry from across America), Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut admitted he had something to do with the AIG bonus mess.

He knew all along. So did Timothy Geithner. Dodd should confess and Geithner should resign. Immediately.

Tony Snow Dead at 53

A friend to many in the conservative movement, a writer, commentator, and a presidential press secretary, Tony Snow died last night of colon cancer at 2 AM EDT in Washington DC. He was 53 years-old.

“America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character,” President Bush said in a statement from Camp David, where he was spending the weekend. “It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day. He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work.”

RIP.

Bill Clinton No Longer Black

He’s alienated the constituency he thought he could never alienate.

One of the nation’s most influential African-American political leaders sharply criticized former President Bill Clinton on Thursday afternoon for what he called his “bizarre” conduct during the Democratic primary campaign. The black leader, Representative James E. Clyburn, an undeclared superdelegate from South Carolina and the third-ranking Democrat in the House, said “black people are incensed over all of this.”

In an interview with The New York Times late Thursday, Mr. Clyburn said Mr. Clinton’s conduct in this campaign had caused what might be an irreparable breach between Mr. Clinton and an African-American constituency that once revered him.

“When he was going through his impeachment problems, it was the black community that bellied up to the bar,” Mr. Clyburn said. “I think black folks feel strongly that this is a strange way for President Clinton to show his appreciation.”

First of all, Clyburn and other Black leaders should have realized what they were dealing with in Bill Clinton. Yet, they didn’t. Instead of seeing him as a master politician saying and doing things which would benefit him directly, they saw in him a figure of power  who cared about the plight of the Black man. Shame on them.

The funny thing is, Bill Clinton is so self absorbed he doesn’t even know the Black guys are mad at him. And even when confronted with it, he still doesn’t believe it could be possible. Talk about living in an alternate universe.

The fact is, that bridge has been burned. Bill Clinton is no longer Black.
